The premise here is a take off on Shakespeare’s bawdy comedy of love and confusion among men and gods -- written in 1595 or 96.

Starting with good material always helps, but, suffice it to say, in A Midsummer Night’s Cream there’s more of men shaking their fleshy spears than of Shakespeare and far more babe than bard. Still A Midsummer Night’s Cream has a joie de vivre that finally wins me over.

If you don’t know from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this will likely seem a witty adult comedy -- an actual multi-character plot line and far out costumes, with lots of Christina Aguilara glitter on the babes.

To anyone familiar Shakespeare’s characters, the names will be recognizable, as are the mostly passable attacks on their motivations. You’ll cringe a few times when the talent over- (or under-) reaches, but then we’re not really doing Shakespeare here, are we?

I will say that hearing key lines from the original ("What fools these mortals be?") delivered in this over-sized genital context is pretty funny after a couple of glasses of wine. Evan Stone as Oberon does a wonderful Victor Mature (Remember Vic and Hedy Lamarr in Samson and Delilah?) while waving his dick around. McKayla is a hot little glittered, mustachioed, androgynous, self-igniting Puck. And Nina Hartley as Titiana seems here completely at home as a goddess.

		A Midsummer Night's Orgy

Definite credit for the success of this video from Adam and Eve is Nicole London’s art direction and Jake Jacob’s camera style. The tale opens on an over-long, six-girl orgy, but ends, after an engaging jill off, and is topped with a well-worth-the-wait moment in adult film from Nina Hartley. Before the women can escalate their fun to another level, Oberon enters, interrupting the warm vibes. Annoyed, Titiana arises, waves her arm and sends the women away, shouting "Faeries away!" with enough style that you can almost see Bette Davis chortling over her shoulder.

It’s a hard moment to top and the rest of the film doesn’t hit that height, but there is plenty here to keep you chuckling, the mix-up of lovers, mortal and celestial, even bestial with Kyle Stone as the ass-headed character Bottom getting off under Nina Hartley’s enhanced breasts.

What I also enjoy about this sex farce is that it’s ambitious in ways one doesn’t see much of these days – a big cast, certainly interesting costuming, a great set and locations, often engaging camera angles and an above average effort to be funny in ways that aren’t purely unintentional. This is actually fun porn, and bless it for that.

A Midsummer Night’s Cream video is the best thing we’ve seen from Adam & Eve in quite a while.
